Home owners sometimes ask us how much of their maintenance budget should be allocated to roof repair.
Think of a roof as an umbrella that protects your house from the rain, snow, sleet, hail and sun. When it wears thin or develops holes it can no longer do the job. On a roof, when the shingles and other materials used in the construction lose their integrity, the rest of the house is affected. The advice from a roofer is to take care of problems as soon as possible. Roof repair is not optional, it is a necessity.
What happens when roof leaks are left unattended? First, you must consider that the inside of a house is not designed to handle volumes of uncontained water. When it leaks through the roof and saturates everything in its path, mold and mildew are encouraged. This leads to rotting wood that eventually collapses under its own weight. Drywall and plaster crumble and cave in. Metal components rust and break loose. The supporting structure of the house gives way and must be replaced.
Insulation that contains excess moisture becomes the breeding ground for colonies of black mold, which are toxic and potentially lethal to anyone in the house breathing the spores. The R-value of the insulation is reduced and you will notice the difference in the cost of heating and cooling your home. It’s easy to prevent the effects of water damage by having your roof inspected on a regular basis and taking care of the small repair jobs before it gets out of control.
Water damage does not always start with a roof leak. If your attic does not have adequate ventilation it becomes very damp. In cooler weather the underside of the roof deck absorbs the condensation that form from the humid air. This encourages mold and may also cause the sheathing to split or buckle. When enough condensation has formed it trickles down into the house and show up as wet spots on the ceiling. An important aspect of roof repair is installing roof vents and fans to ensure fresh air is circulating throughout the attic.
Don’t wait until a small problem has escalated into a costly home renovation. We will be there if you have an emergency water leak, but preventative action is the best way to preserve your roof and everything under it.

Typically, I do not enjoy being asked to write a review for services because more times than not, the service provided is average and teeters between adequate and feeling like I owe the service provider a bonus for performing the duties they were hired to fulfill. It is for those reasons, more times than not, I decide not to write a review at all and choose to actively live by the phrase we have all heard during our lives, “If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything”. In Ken's case I will say that he is not only worthy of an outstanding review but, further reviews which I would be proud to post on other sites such as Angie's List and The Better Business Bureau. A combination of severe storms and poor window installation from Window World caused significant damage to my rental house in Reston, VA which was being occupied by a family of seven that had five small children ages 4, 2 (triplets), and a newborn. Utilizing Yahoo! Yellow Pages, my work phone, and a lot of luck, I stumbled upon Ken's business after many unreturned phone calls to other roof repair companies. From my initial call to Ken, to his final follow-up visit which he was in no way obligated to make, Ken and his crew were first class, first rate, on time, professional, and a pleasure to work with. Even more surprising was the fact that Ken and his team genuinely care about the quality of work they provide which was evident in the number of follow-up phone calls I received ensuring I felt comfortable and satisfied with the roofing repair. Although I would have preferred not having to use a roofing service at all, I know that if I need any further roof repairs performed, Ken will be my first and only call to have the work completed in an extremely fair and professional manner. Ken's integrity, honesty, and expertise are all reasons to write him a worthy review. I feel that Ken's business is a pleasant rarity in the Washington DC area and deserves to be promoted until he decides to call it quits which, in my eyes would be a loss for many home owners in the area. In the age of self-promotion and entitlement, Ken is a breath of fresh air and epitomizes the notion of getting a square deal. If you are interested in spending money to have average repairs and a quick and impersonal turn around, look up 9 out of 10 roofing companies in the area. If you are interested in receiving quality work, a fair deal, and working with someone that understands the importance of putting his name on his product, go to www.roof.net and feel confident in knowing you are not just another “job”Thanks again!
