Concrete Roof Tile Repair

 We had a customer that needed concrete roof tile repair after a tornado passed near his home. Fortunately, his house had been contructed with a tile roof and it survived the storm far better than his neighbors with metal roofs or asphalt shingles.

In general concrete roof tiles are not nailed down. You will see holes in the tiles for nails but they don't normally get used. These tiles are made with raised nubs that allow the next tile to rest securely in place without sliding off.

About the only time nails are used for this type of roofing is when the pitch of the roof is very steep. In this case, the homeowner was very lucky to have a steep high roof so nails were used to attach the tiles.

When the high winds impacted the house, several tiles were ripped off the roof and strewn about the property. Most of them were broken, but we managed to save a few. The tiles were over 30 years old and weather beaten so matching the color was an issue.

Instead of replacing the cement tiles in the more visible sections of the roof with new ones, we removed some orginal tiles from an interior slope not visible from the ground. We used the old tiles to fill in the gaps on the front of the house. The job appeared seamless. The new tiles were used where they couldn't be seen.

The customer was quite pleased with the results, and was especially happy with the fact we got the work done before the next rainfall. The  concrete roof tile repair to his home saved him quite a bit of money compared with his neighbors, many of whom had to replace the entire roof.  Article Source
